About Gardens by Romi

Landscape and Garden Design, Installation and Maintenance Serving the Hamptons, New York

After spending 10 years in Manhattan as a young adult, Romi Sloan missed her connection to the earth and returned to her hometown in the Hamptons to follow her dream of becoming a garden designer and pursue a degree in ornamental horticulture.

Romi's deep concern for the environment and her love of perennial gardens and organic vegetable gardens led her in 1991 to start Gardens by Romi, originally specializing in designing perennial, annual, and vegetable gardens. She has been building and maintaining gardens for the most discriminating clients ever since from her Southampton location. Over the years she has branched out into landscape design, wetlands buffers, stonework, installation of landscapes, property maintenance, and container plantings, and her work has been featured in This Old House magazine. Romi takes great pride in helping her clients to come home to a peaceful, beautiful setting where they can escape from the chaos of the world. Whether that means a highly manicured yard and garden surrounded by a boxwood hedge or a casual, flowing stone patio surrounded by ferns, she will help you create your dream.

Romi's philosophy is to leave as small a footprint upon the earth as possible, and she has kept to that ideal since before it became fashionable. Her company is completely organic. Romi is a hands-on designer and personally works with each client to achieve their vision of backyard paradise; from conception to installation to maintenance, she is there every step of the way, and she personally places every plant that gets planted on your property. She and her crew pride themselves on meticulous maintenance and customer service.

Now celebrating 20 years in business, she plans to be building gardens and landscapes for the next 20 years. Many Gardens by Romi clients have been with her for almost 18 years. Romi's excellence in service and outstanding eye for detail keep her customers coming back year after year.
